The voting on the nominations for the Czech Lion Awards has just started; 94 films, miniseries and series are fighting for the prestigious award

The ceremonial gala evening when the 33^rd annual awards of the Czech Film and Television Academy (CFTA) symbolized by the statuettes of the Czech Lion will be presented on 14^th March 2026 and the ceremony will take place in the Prague Congress Centre in Prague for the first time. Traditionally Czech Television will broadcast the gala evening live on CT1 channel at 20:10. Today the CFTA academics started voting in the first round and altogether 94 works of art passed to the first round within the framework of 24 statutory categories. The nominations will be announced on 19^th January 2026, also in a live broadcast of Czech Television on the CT24 channel.

The ceremony of presenting the prestigious film awards will be hosted for the first time by the stand-up comedian Bianca Cristovao. The creative supervision of the gala will be again in the hands of Matěj Chlupáček.

The voting of the members of the Czech Film and Television Academy, which unites the prominent film and television professionals, started officially on 1^st December. The academics are assessing altogether 94 movies of this year production that have been premiered in 2025. Specifically, 38 feature actors’ films, 15 documentary features, which have been chosen by the pre-selection committee consisting of the members of the academy from the total number of 36 documentary features and 15 animated or puppet films. Furthermore, the academics are also assessing 14 series and miniseries enrolled by their broadcasters/producers which have been presented during the year on screens or online platforms as well as 12 short films that a preselection committee consisting of the members of the academy has chosen from the 36 movies that had been enrolled. The Czech Lion Awards are presented in 24 statutory categories, every year the presidium acknowledges a unique contribution to Czech film and can also award a prize for an exceptional feat in the area of audio-visual arts.

For the first time, the upcoming presentation of the Czech Lion Awards will take place in the Prague Congress Centre. “We are grateful for the years we could spend in Rudolfinum; however, the Congress Centre offers a great deal of new opportunities for the gala evening, from the size of the stage and larger seating capacity to the backstage technical facilities,” explains the president of the CFTA Ivo Mathé.

Just like last year the supervisor of the ceremonial gala evening will be the director and producer Matěj Chlupáček and the scenographer Henrich Boráros. The live broadcast will be once again directed by the experienced Michael Čech. “We are pleased to continue with the job we started last year because we got the opportunity to try a number of new things – a new concept, new venue and a new host. The 33^rd Czech Lion continues with its last year’s mission to supply new energy and this year we will again use the ceremony itself to present the not so well known but nonetheless very important faces of Czech cinematography,” explains Matěj Chlupáček. The role of the host has been accepted by the stand-up comedian and scriptwriter Bianca Cristovao, who builds up her successful career mainly in the United States. “I mostly work abroad so the offer to host the Czech Lion Awards came as a big surprise. As soon as I got to know the creative team it became clear that next year will not lack surprises. I would like to thank for the opportunity to be part of the next memorable evening where the Czech talent will be appreciated,” adds Cristovao.

The support of stable partners is essential for the presentation of the Czech Lion film awards. The loyal general partner has been for a long time the mineral water Magnesia of the company Mattoni 1873, which is also the co-organiser of the Magnesia Award for the best student film that is also awarded within the framework of the gala evening. A significant supporter of the Czech cinematography is also the main partner of the Czech Lion Awards, the innogy company. The main media partner is Czech Television. The other partners of the 33^rd Czech Lion Awards are Cinestar, the Prague Congress Centre, Krušovice Bohém and the media partners are Czech Radio Radiožurnál, ČSFD.cz, the news portal iDnes.cz, Reflex, Ledmultimedia and Vogue CS.
